The Paris Summary (pictures follow)

Well I will try to give a brief synopsis, but it may be difficult for me to be brief (no surprise to most of you). When Lindsay told me that we were going to spend a weekend in Paris, I was less than enthused. My thoughts on Paris were quite different than hers. She thought of romance, the river, wonderful food, blah, blah, blah. I, on the other hand, thought of gray skies, rain, dirty roads, cockroaches, unhappy, smelly people. My thoughts on Paris mimicked the Paris of George Orwell's "Down and Out in Paris and London." Thankfully, and as usual, Lindsay's perceptions were more correct. No matter what you have heard about the French, its people, food, and culture - if it is negative, forget it. Paris was hospitable, friendly, and wonderful. After five days, many meals and several glasses of wine, Lindsay and I decided that every person we encountered treated us as friends. Almost everyone was able and willing to speak English with us. When the menu was complicated or

Lindsay arrived yesterday afternoon. Life is good. We ate lunch together in the old town, and were surprised by the music of the Glockenspiel at 3:00. We took a long nap, ate dinner, and finally returned home for bed around 12:15.

St. Peter Ording

Well, there is way too much to include in post. This past weekend, myself and two new friends (Felipe from Costa Rica and Ana from Colombia) traveled to St. Peter Ording. St Peter is a Nordsee city near nothing. It is beautiful. And never have I traveled so easily with new friends before. It feels like we have known each other forever. They leave next week, and I will be sad to see them go! I do think we will stay in touch! The trip: On Friday we left class and picked up our rental car. To our surprise, the car was a mid-sized Mercedes! And diesel! Cheap gas, great efficiency, and luxury. It was a great ride for three good buddies. We headed north through Hamburg and arrived in St. Peter late afternoon. Unsure of where to stay, we happened to borrow a tent from my Guest family, and immediately found a campsite less than 100 yards from the beach- BEAUTIFUL! Also, within minutes of setting up our campsite, we met a man from Munich named Toni. We spent the night sitting on the beach, play

Jumping off the Bridge...

Image
This will be short because I have class in a few minutes. Yesterday was a beautiful day - hot, sunny, and ultimately wet. The Weser River (Die Weser) runs through the middle of Bremen. Just below the Weser is a smaller river, the Weder See. Yesterday, we finally took a big break together and went swimming. It was marvelous. Towards the end of our day, we found ourselves looking over the bridge on the Weder see. Having seen others jump a few days ago, we thought we would give it a try. In all humility, I let Felipe jump first. Following his plunge, he arose from the water unscathed, so I took the leap myself. Wonderful and warm. We did it several times, but mostly for photo opps. The exciting thing was that after our last jump, the Polizei arrived, and ticketed the others for jumping. I think the Polizei looked at us, and figured - tourists. We left unscathed by both the Mighty WederSee and the Polizei. A wonderful day it was.
